Google Releases AdWords Upgrade

Google is adding a feature to its AdWords platform that lets advertisers see how frequently people use certain search terms in order to more finely tune their ad campaigns.

AdWords, which has been the foundation for Google’s success in online advertising, is the platform that delivers relevant text, image or video ads next to search query results and on web pages with matching content.

Within AdWords is the Keyword Tool, which helps advertisers pick keywords and offers suggestions. The KeyWord Tool will now show “search volume data”, or how many times a particular term has been used in a particular…

Yahoo Opens its Search Technology to Third Parties

Yahoo said it would release the beta version of an API (application programming interface) that Web sites can use to build services based on its search infrastructure and algorithms, including the ability to re-rank results and control how they are presented.

A publisher could use the API to build a search service that specializes in a particular topic, such as sports, for example. Or it could use the API to give users a better way to search the content on its Web site —or potentially even to build a rival to Yahoo.

Google and Yahoo Preparing to Enable Flash Search

To push the search technology yet another step forward, Adobe is now working with Google and Yahoo to make Flash content searchable in online search. This effort would enable searches on Flash content to return text and links, which can then be indexed, thereby making it available in search results.

Inforworld reported that content from a Flash application, a game or advertisements will also be available to search engines. The pages returned in search would be those containing a Flash .SWF file. Google has already implemented this, while Yahoo is expected to enable Flash search in a future version.
